Hockenhull Gold is a family saga that swirls around the legendary John Hockenhull of 1800s Dawsonville who strikes gold in Lumpkin County’s boom town of Auraria, dares to trek with forty-niners, designs and builds a courthouse, fathers a city and serves the Confederacy while hating slavery. The adventurous and charming “Cheshiremon” is lured to North Georgia at the breech of Cherokee removal in 1840. His ambition leads to plantation life and southern politics, but success is tempered by lost love, scandal, death and the American Civil War.
