"The move from pre-K to kindergarten can be a big change, according to Teri Lynn Reed, a kindergarten transition coach with Dawson County Schools.   An event is planned for Feb. 26 at the Dawson County Library to help parents understand what will be expected of their kindergarten and pre-K children.

  The inaugural Preschool Literacy Fair is aimed at children ages 3 to 5, who will either be attending kindergarten for the first time or pre-k.   Reed said parents will leave the event “with lots of ideas and lots of activities they can do with their children to help them become school ready.”

  She said teachers, volunteers and other community members will be giving away flash cards, pens and pencils as well as other school supplies. In addition, a complimentary breakfast will be served. A pre-school teacher from the school system will entertain children by reading a book at the event as well. - From Dawson News
