Early Literacy & 1,000 Books B4 Kindergarten
Giving Young Children the Tools to Become Successful Readers
1,000 Books B4 Kindergarten is a new library partnership program with Georgia Public Library Services that encourages all Lumpkin & Dawson County families to read 1,000 books with their young children before they enter kindergarten. Studies have shown that families who start reading aloud to their children at birth help to strengthen their language skills and build their vocabulary, important tools for learning to read when they enter kindergarten. Dolly Parton's Imagination Library
Dolly Parton launched her Imagination Library in 1995. Dolly’s vision was to foster a love of reading among preschool children and their families by mailing high quality, age-appropriate books directly to their homes each month. She wanted children to be excited about books and to feel the magic that books can create. Lumpkin Literacy completely funds a free book through the Dolly Parton Imagination Library each month for Lumpkin County children from birth through age 4. All funds are raised at the local level and the program is completely funded at the local level by Lumpkin Literacy. Kids run to the mailbox each month to get their free book. Bring families closer together by reading the books to your children!
