1000 books before kindergarten logo

Establishing early literacy is vital to cultivating academic success that continues into adulthood. Georgia Public Library Service has partnered with public libraries across Georgia to encourage parents to read 1000 books with their children before the age of 5 through the 1000 Books B4 Kindergarten program.

The Lumpkin County Library would like to invite those who don’t yet participate in this program to stop by the library and pick up all the necessary materials (log book, instructions, etc.) and have your child choose either a car or a horse cut-out to “race” toward the finish line on the library race track!

To celebrate children and caregivers who are currently participating in or have already completed the 1000 Books B4 Kindergarten program, we are holding a special family storytime on Wednesday, November 20 at 4:00 PM. All ages are welcome! We invite everyone who has already started on the literacy race track and anyone who would like to Get Ready, Set, GO!

For more information about the 1000 Books B4 Kindergarten challenge, visit the program’s website or contact your local library.
